The WXRT News team took things a little further than usual on April Fools Day 1980, using audio from actual news stories—out of context—to concoct a War of the Worlds-type scenario involving a well-endowed alien visitor.
A touch of authenticity comes from the, let’s say, repurposing of actual news audio from—among other things—Pope John Paul II’s October 1979 visit to Chicago.
These reports disrupted other April foolishness presided over by WXRT’s Bobby Skafish and—in a prank guest appearance—rival WLS-AM DJ John Records Landecker.
